Some time ago I participated with a group of friends and others in a beginners chess lesson in a room at a local restaurant. Mr. Ken Kirkland (Captain Kirk) was the instructor. To say the least, I was impressed with the Captain's lively, entertaining and effective lesson plans. True to his stated goals, he made sure all participants learned some of the basics of chess, had a good time doing so and and were actually playing simplified games before the session ended! Mr. Kirkland is a skilled professional instructor who not only is highly knowlegeable about all phases of the game of chess, including it's history, but is also able to convey his wisdom in a mannor that can cause his students, both children and adults, to become (almost) as enthusiastic as their instructor!
